Table of Contents

What are the sections?

The first section of the digital SAT is the Reading & Writing section. This section will test vocabulary, reading comprehension, and conventions of standard English grammar and structure. Each passage or each pair of short passages will have only one question. No passages will be repeated. Students will have different passages or the same passages may be in a different order than other test takers.

The Modules of the Reading & Writing Section

The Reading and Writing Section will have two modules. The first module will be the same average difficulty for everyone. It will be 32 minutes long and 27 questions long, meaning you'll have an average of approximately 71 seconds per question. Depending on how you do on the first module, the second module will be either harder or easier. The second module will also be 32 minutes long with 27 questions.

The Order of the Questions on the Reading & Writing Section

In the reading and writing section you'll start off with vocabulary based passage type questions. You'll then have evidence based (text) and figured based (quantitative) questions before moving to inference questions. After that, you'll have text structure questions. The next group of questions will be grammar and structure questions, before moving to integrating and summarizing information questions. The questions will be a mix of the following: natural and social science, history, culture, technology, and arts across non-fiction and fiction.
